On May 2nd 2008, Chicago will host its second annual art event, Looptopia. My company, Binary Artists, participated in the historic, first annual 24-hour event last year. My organization was asked to develop a live video feed from Hong Kong and the Chicago Loop then merge the images together onto a single canvas. My group was also responsible for all the post-production work done on the Millennium Park Crown Fountain, the enormous towers in Millennium Park which have become a staple in Chicago.
This year my team is developing an audience-controlled project entitled Visible Gestures. Visible Gestures is an interactive environment designed to demonstrate the ever-changing landscape of the city. Each day new buildings are being constructed and older buildings are demolished. These constant modifications affect the appearance of the city’s landscape, and the city as a whole. Our project will enable participants to travel within a virtual reconstruction of Chicago using modified Wii controllers. Users will be able to travel throughout the city and select buildings that they would like to recreate.
The entire Looptopia event is funded by generous donations from local Chicago businesses that support this yearly event. However, there are minimal funds available to support projects that consist of the technology that it will require to create what we envision.
Our team would greatly appreciate a donation in any amount. Your assistance will assure this project becomes a reality. In exchange for your generosity, (company’s name)’s logo or name will be placed on a building that will be visible in the project. Last year the number of attendants exceeded 100,000. This year the audience numbers are expected to surpass that number, and we would like your organization to be seen by this year’s audience.
